Julia Wang's flight record request was denied by Florida Court, May2026

I have been haunted by the couple Julia Wang and James Frechter since 2016—who worked in the advertising and PR industry—after I completed my RTW flight.

This couple claimed that Ms. Wang completed her flight before me and should be the "first" Chinese female to do so; nonetheless, at least AOPA China and the Florida court do not agree with such a claim.

I recently learned that a Florida default judgment favoring this couple was entered. However, even in this default judgment—which was reached without considering my side of the facts at all—the court still denied recognizing Wang's flight record.

[NOTE: According to the Hague Convention and Chinese law, a default judgment based on international email delivery of judicial documents against a Chinese citizen is in violation of the law and will never be recognized in China.]

As I cannot use Facebook, X, or other social media in China, I noted that English media outlets have quoted only Wang's (or her husband's) words, often with twisted or omitted facts. For those interested in this dispute and for those who support me, I have listed a brief timeline below to clarify the historical facts.

  • 2016 – Wang self-claimed on Chinese social media that she completed an 18-day RTW flight. She claimed to be the first Chinese female to do so.
  • 2017 – Wang initiated the first lawsuit against me regarding the "first" flight record dispute in New York and lost the case in 2018 (Case No. 160043/2017, NYSCEF Doc. No. 11, at 2 (N.Y. Sup. Ct. N.Y. Cnty)).
  • 2018 – AOPA China withdrew its recognition of Julia Wang's "first" flight record, as well as its cash award of 1 million RMB, after finding that Wang's flight was incomplete and doubtful.
  • 2018 – Wang sued Wei Chen, the AOPA China director and flight record award founder, in California and lost the case in 2023 (Case No. BC696119, Superior Court of CA, County of LA).
  • 2018 – Wang sued the 99s Women Pilots Organization in New York for their report on my "first" RTW flight and lost. The court ruled that Wang started her flight after mine and that the content of the report regarding my flight is true and correct. (Case No, 18-CV-1780  (S.D.N.Y. Jul. 17, 2021) )
  • 2018 – I sued Wang in Beijing for defaming me "faked" my flight. Nonetheless, the Beijing court ruled that I am a public figure and that I should tolerate Wang's criticism, which did not cause severe damages. No rulings on the "first" record.

  • Before 2017 – James Frechter held a company named Interkool in Beijing, China, which is publicly listed as having a "serious violation of law" status. Julia Wang's name appears in Chinese records as an employee of that company.
  • 2017 – Both Frechter and Wang, as well as their company, China General Aviation LLC, were sued for unpaid aircraft rental (used for Wang's alleged record-setting flight in 2016). (Plane Smart Aviation, LLC, No. 502017CA010573XXXXMB, Fla. 15th Cir. Ct. 2017). The original aircraft bill showed that Wang obtained the aircraft on August 19, 2016, days after her claimed starting date of August 17, 2016—this explains why AOPA China withdrew its recognition of Wang's record.
  • 2026 – Frechter and Wang are under a final judgment against them for debt collection of over $83,000 USD, and they had not paid the bill as of May 2026. (Case No. 50-2019-CA-016112-XXXX-MB, Fla. 15th Cir. Ct.).

See more documents below denying Wang's alleged 2016 flight record.

[NOTE: In the courtroom, Wang claimed she started her RTW flight on August 17, 2016, and completed it on September 19, 2016, making her the first Chinese female to do so. Such a claim was contrary to the records I collected in China, as listed below.]

  • Wang's Weibo post on September 20, 2016, claiming she completed the 18-day RTW flight. In the courtroom later, she changed her story, and the alleged flight then took over 30 days.
  • Wang's post on the XCar forum (爱卡汽车论坛) on August 23, 2016. XCar was one of her RTW flight sponsors; in the post, she discussed how she was nervous about the "upcoming RTW flight." This date was five days after her claimed starting flight date.
  • Attorney letter on behalf of Wei Chen, the AOPA China director, refusing to recognize Wang's flight records due to her failure to provide evidence.
  • The Chinese public company registry record (and its English translation) showing James Frechter's Beijing company, Interkool, had its license revoked and is under a "serious violation of law" status. (I cannot post the detailed company record due to Chinese law restrictions, but I have personally confirmed that Wang's name was listed as an employee of this company.)
  • Email sent by AOPA China in May 2018, requesting Wang's flight evidence, challenging the completeness of her flight, noting her personal attacks against me, and including the English translation.
